The Governor might grant a title appropriate to the Case.

If however the Governor should deem it inexpedient having regard to the

public interests of the Colony that such title should be granted he could refer

the matter back to the Court to decide what compensation should be paid to the

Claimants, and the amount awarded by the Court was to be paid by the Government as

the Court should direct.

Your Petitioners therefore submit that under the Judgment of the Land Court the Claimant s

had vested in them one of two alternative rights,namely:-

The right to have a title granted to them, or

The right to compensation.

And that such rights being vested in them the Claimants had power to assign the sa-

me to any person as they should think fit.

On the 30th. December 1901 the said Tong Wan Chiu and Ku Fai Shan through their Solicitors

Messrs.Deacon & Hastings wrote a letter to the Registrar of the Land Court which was as follows:-

"We have the honour to enquire when the Certificate of title to the property re-

"ferred to in the Judgment of the Court in connection with these Claims will be issued.

"The Claimants desire to obtain same as soon as possible as they wish to deal with

*the property.

"We have the honour to be,

"Deacon & Hastings.

"The Registrar,

On the 15th.January 1902 Messrs.Deacon & Hastings wrote as follows to the Colonial Secretary

"15th.January 1902.
